Imagine that you are looking at yourself in a mirror that is not clean, it has dirt and maybe even cracks on it. The image looking back at you will be distorted; it will not look like the real you. Think of the spots of dirt and the cracks as the social conditioning and the unmet needs that you might have experienced in your past. For me, counselling is similar to the process of cleaning the mirror; you will be able to see a more authentic you once you remove the spots of dirt. You can become aware of the cracks and how they formed and can learn to love yourself despite them. You can begin to see your story from a different perspective.
LEARN FROM YOUR PAST
It’s not possible to change the past, but you can learn from it. You can become aware of the power past events have on you. You can discover the gifts that it has to offer, some of them hiding very deep underneath your pain, shame, anger, or low self- esteem.
LIVE THE PRESENT & CREATE YOUR FUTURE
It can be hard to live in the present when you have struggles and challenges in your life. You might feel stuck, lost, hopeless, not knowing who you are or what to do to move forward. Through therapy, you can become aware of the limiting patterns in your life and start to create a clearer picture in your mind of how you want your life to be; a life that is more authentic. At times it might not be an easy journey and you will need to put in your share of work. If you do, you can start to create a life that is free from other people’s expectations of who you should be; free from the fear that you are not good enough; free from worrying that you will not be loved for who you are. You can rediscover and learn to love your true self.
You might find it hard to believe, but you are filled with a lot of love, potential, creativity and healing power. You deserve to love and be loved.
